Today, we honor the resilience and courage of survivors of domestic abuse and gender-based violence, while remembering the lives lost to these injustices. November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a day that commemorates the tragic assassination of the Mirabal sisters in 1960 and serves as a call to action against violence in all its forms. This day also begins 16 days of activism, culminating in International Human Rights Day, where individuals and organizations around the world unite to raise awareness, advocate for change, and demand justice. At Dinah, we are deeply committed to supporting survivors through advocacy, education, and legal representation. We believe that every survivor deserves the opportunity to reclaim their life, find safety, and seek justice. The fight against intimate partner violence is not just a global issue, it’s a local one, too. In our own community, we see the devastating impact of abuse and the urgent need for resources, support, and systemic change. The statistics are sobering: nearly 1 in 5 women between the ages of 15 and 49 have experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner, according to the United Nations. For some, this violence ends in tragedy. But together, we can work toward a future where no one has to live in fear, where survivors are empowered, and where violence is no longer tolerated. Join us in the 16 days of activism. Use your voice to amplify the stories of survivors, advocate for stronger protections, and demand accountability. Together, we can create a world free from violence. #EndViolence #16DaysOfActivism #Dinah #Voices4Voiceless
The holidays can be a joyful time, but they can also bring added stress, especially for survivors of domestic violence. Remember, you’re not alone, and planning ahead can make a big difference in staying safe. The guide *Safety Planning for the Holidays* from BWJP (Battered Women’s Justice Project) offers practical tips to help navigate this season. Here are a few key strategies from BWJP: - Set up safe ways to communicate with trusted people or hotlines, and consider using a code word for emergencies. - Identify safe places to go if gatherings feel unsafe, and have transportation options ready in case you need to leave quickly. - Protect your privacy by clearing browsing history, turning off location sharing, and using secure devices. - Address financial stress by organizing important documents, setting aside emergency funds, or seeking help from advocates. For more tips and resources, you can read the full BWJP guide here: https://bwjp.org/site-resources/preparing-for-the-holidayshelpful-tips-and-resources/ Dinah is here to provide support and hope. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we stand with survivors, amplifying their voices and demanding justice. 💜 For too long, systemic silence has allowed cycles of abuse and injustice to continue. As Alyssa Toledo, Communications Associate at the Battered Women’s Justice Project, explains in her article, *“Every Survivor, Every Story: Why the Epstein Files Matter Beyond One Case,”* the fight for justice goes beyond any single name or case. It’s about breaking the silence, holding systems accountable, and ensuring every survivor is seen and heard. The Epstein Files are more than just one story—they represent a broader call for transparency, truth, and recognition for all survivors of gender-based violence. At Dinah, we are committed to this vision. Through advocacy, education, and representation, we work to protect and uplift survivors’ voices, ensuring their stories are never dismissed or forgotten. Justice cannot thrive in secrecy. Together, we can create a world where every survivor’s story matters.
